Polaris is a leader in the global fight to eradicate modern slavery. Named after the North Star that guided slaves to freedom in the U.S., Polaris acts as a catalyst to systemically disrupt the human trafficking networks that rob human beings of their lives and their freedom. By working with government leaders, the world’s leading technology corporations, and local partners, Polaris equips communities to identify, report, and prevent human trafficking. Our comprehensive model puts victims at the center of what we do—helping survivors restore their freedom, preventing more victims, and leveraging data and technology to pursue traffickers wherever they operate. Polaris proudly operates the 24/7 National Human Trafficking Hotline.  Polaris is headquartered in Washington, D.C., operates on a $9 million budget in 2017, and has approximately 100 staff members.

Polaris, a leader in the anti-human trafficking movement, is seeking a Software Developer to support the operations of the National Human Trafficking Hotline, and Polaris as a whole. The Software Developer will work with an innovative technology team in a passionate, dedicated and dynamic environment dedicated to the eradication of modern slavery and the support of its victims and survivors using data and technology.

The Software Developer will work closely with stakeholders and technical colleagues to develop feature requirements, innovate solutions, and shepherd the concept through the full development and testing life-cycle.  As we expand our data systems and infrastructure, this position has significant room for growth.

  • Minimum two years’ professional work experience in software development;

  • Web technology experience including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (knowledge of a modern framework, like ReactJS or Angular, a plus);

  • Understanding of industry best-practices including testing and software design patterns;

  • Familiarity with git or another version control tool;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including being able to listen, talk, and to learn from people with varying levels of technical literacy;
