Boris Gartner

Boris is a sports and media executive currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of LaLiga North America, a joint venture between Relevent Sports, a multinational media, sports and entertainment group, and LaLiga, Spain’s top-flight soccer competition and professional association. LaLiga North America was founded in 2018 as a first-of-a-kind partnership featuring the world’s best soccer league with internationally recognized clubs and players, with the goal of cultivating soccer culture in the U.S. and driving the league’s growth in the region.

Previously, Boris served as COO for Grupo Televisa’s Content Division – the largest Spanish-language content producer in the world. In this position, he was responsible for corporate strategy, business management, and company operations for the group’s Content unit. During the first year, operations were completely restructured, resulting in a 16% ratings growth YoY and over $60M in savings.

Prior to joining Televisa, he was part of the founding team that launched Fusion as a joint venture between Univision Communications Inc and the Disney/ABC Television Group, and most recently served as Chief Operating Officer. Fusion is part of Fusion Media Group, which includes Gizmodo Media Group, The Onion Inc., and The Root, and was part of Univision’s English-language Digital expansion.

Prior to this role, he served on different positions at Univision Communications Inc., including VP and GM of its in-house digital studio focused on creating alternative content offerings with innovative advertising formats and sponsorship opportunities. He launched Variety Latino in partnership with Penske Media’s Variety; Panoramica, an award-winning Documentary series in partnership with Participant Media; and Alma Extrema, an adventure sports and lifestyle digital destination powered by Red Bull Media House. He also served as Vice President of Strategy and New Initiatives for Univision News, where he managed operations and strategic initiatives focused on the growth and profitability of News’ content offerings across platforms. Under his leadership, Univision News created various new revenue streams, including a two-year $35 million project, and consistently grew its contribution margin year-over-year.

Boris was recognized as a NAMIC Luminary by the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications –NAMIC in 2016, was part of Cynopsis Digital’s 2016 IT List, was included in 2013’s Variety’s Hollywood’s New Leaders: TV Executives, and was part of Univision’s High Potential List in 2012.

Earlier in his career, he served as Director of Finance and Investments for Prodigy International, a real estate investment company with operations in the US, Mexico, Spain, and Colombia. His responsibilities included overseeing the company’s financial operations and structuring multiple investment opportunities. His career began in Private Banking at Lloyds TSB Bank in Miami.

Boris holds an Advanced Management degree in Media and Entertainment from IESE Business School and an Advanced Project Management degree from Stanford University. He earned a Masters degree in International Business from Florida International University and a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia.

He is part of the 2017 Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, the 2013 Georgetown Leadership Seminar, a member of the Milken Institute Associates, the Paley Center Media Council, Pacific Council on International Policy, PTTOW!, the Real Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences, and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
