Leadership

Jean Gilbert

Jean Gilbert has been a member of the Polaris board since 2018, most notably serving as the Treasurer. She brings with her an expertise in nonprofit management and finance. Jean’s objectives for the organization include building our brand identity, and ensuring our strategy and focus remain aligned with our mission.

Jean recently retired as a key partner in Marcum’s Managed Accounting Services team, where she had worked since 2006. In addition to leading teams that provide a range of outsourced accounting services, Ms. Gilbert’s engagements have included facilitation of enterprise risk management, financial and operational risk assessments, evaluation of internal controls and implementation of recommendations, providing expert support for grant management (domestic and international), analysis of indirect cost rates, and providing guidance on spin-offs, mergers, and dissolutions.

In the past, Jean has served on the boards of DC Habitat for Humanity, and Wilderness, Leadership, and Learning. Both organizations are dedicated to bringing opportunities to underserved populations in the DC Metropolitan area. Through that work, she developed a strong interest in defending human rights and Polaris.

Jean lives in Washington, DC along with her dog, and enjoys skiing, scuba diving, fitness, and writing.
