Since the implementation of a training curriculum in New Jersey, the number of youth identified as trafficking survivors by the NJ Department of Children and Families has increased, leading to enhanced services and care coordination.
After "Camille" was trapped in terrible conditions, a family tutor called the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline to help her escape. The hotline connected "Camille" to Polaris's Client Services team, who worked closely with her to rebuild her life.
In 2013, Google gave Polaris the prestigious Global Impact Award to support our effort to build a global safety net for survivors of modern-day slavery and develop a more coordinated global response for victims of this transnational crime.
With the support of Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children, Twilio, and Salesforce.com, Polaris launched BeFree in March 2013 - a new texting shortcode that victims and concerned citizens can use to send text messages for help.
In 2014, Caravan Studios, Polaris, and the New Jersey Department of Children and Families were named winners of the Partnership for Freedom’s Reimagine: Opportunity innovation challenge to help increase shelter services for human trafficking survivors.
In December 2015, the Houston, Texas city council unanimously passed an ordinance that allows police to inspect illicit massage businesses for sex trafficking.
