This month we kicked off our Summer Matching Gift Challenge and wanted to update you on where things stand.
A group of generous donors has agreed to match all gifts up to $100,000 through midnight August 15, 2017. We really need to hit our goal in order to ensure that we have the resources we need to fund our lifesaving programs and services. In 2016, reports of human trafficking cases in the United States to the Polaris-operated National Human Trafficking Hotline jumped by 37%. As awareness continues to grow, Polaris expects human trafficking reports to increase in 2017.
Please make a gift of $35 before the deadline to double the impact for survivors of human trafficking. As reports and cases increase, so do the costs of providing life-saving services.
Earlier this year we released a groundbreaking report “The Typology of Modern Slavery”, recognizing that these cases provide insights for how to disrupt human trafficking networks. The report analyzed over 32,000 cases reported to National Human Trafficking Hotline and BeFree Textline and identified 25 unique types of human trafficking. From escort services to traveling sales crews, the ways humans are exploited differ greatly, as do ways to combat the problem.
With your support Polaris is working to systematically disrupt these 25 types in the US by leveraging existing systems to dismantle trafficking networks and build a strong safety net for survivors. The resources we secure today will enhance our work so we can continue to bring independence to those held against their will every day across the U.S.
