WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 28, 2017)—Polaris, a leader in the global fight to eradicate modern slavery and help survivors restore their freedom, today hailed the U.S. Congress for taking the first steps toward reauthorizing the United States’ cornerstone anti-human trafficking legislation.

Polaris released a new report that breaks down instances of sex and labor trafficking into 25 distinct categories, detailing the unique trafficker profile, recruitment tactics, victim profile, and method of control for each different subset of modern slavery.

Polaris and Clear Channel Outdoor Americas, together with Illinois Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti, launched a four week anti-human trafficking awareness campaign to run on over 20 digital billboards across the city of Chicago.

Polaris hailed the 3rd season of the ABC series, "American Crime," for capturing the reality of modern slavery in the U.S.

Together, the Polaris-operated hotlines handled a record 8,042 cases of human trafficking in 2016, bringing the total number of reported cases since 2007 to 33,680.
