Today we mark another World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. I would like to thank all the Polaris partners, supporters and donors who make our work possible.
Thousands will fall victim to human trafficking across the globe each year, and according to data from Polaris’ National Human Trafficking Hotline, the number of reported cases in the U.S. is on the rise.
As awareness about this issue grows, it is vital to continue to provide adequate financial resources to direct service programs like the National Human Trafficking Hotline, to ensure support for the brave individuals seeking help. We can fight human trafficking together by making sure victims and survivors have a lifeline, are no longer at risk and have a safe place to live and resources to help them rehabilitate. Our donors are that lifeline.
Our supporters are creating a safety net and building an environment in which victims can safely signal for help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The hotline connects victims to life-saving services, while also collecting data about the crime that is then analyzed for insights aimed at disruption.
Data and analytics provide unprecedented opportunities for our organization and other service providers to monitor illegal activities and enable law enforcement agencies to locate and rescue victims.
Our Impact:
- We have identified 31,659 cases of human trafficking through the National Hotline
- The hotline took in a record 8,042 reports of human trafficking in 2016, which is a 35% jump from 2015
- Polaris assisted about 4,800 survivors of human trafficking directly in 2016
How you can help:
You can directly help us reach more victims and survivors by becoming a donor today. Your gift right now will be matched, dollar for dollar – but only if you give before midnight on August 15.
Thanks for helping save lives.
