Trafficking Hotline

It has been almost a year since the state of Texas teamed up with the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline to ensure the most robust possible response to child sex trafficking in the Lone Star State and, by all possible measures, this unique partnership is already making a difference in the lives of children and families. 

The number of cases of human trafficking reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline are projected to jump about 25 percent in 2018 compared to 2017. This is based on early numbers released by Polaris, which has been operating the National Hotline for 11 years. 

Despite the anti-trafficking community’s great strides to create a safety net for survivors, there are still many systematic and inadvertent barriers that block survivors from accessing the critical housing they need.

Many domestic violence (DV) programs have come to understand the profound similarities in the experiences of DV and human trafficking. Both situations are rooted in power and control.  Survivors in both are often hurt by someone they see as an intimate partner. Both can face similar cycles of violence. And both often face a need for safe, emergency housing.

Cases of human trafficking reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888) and BeFree Textline (233733) jumped by 13 percent in 2017 from the previous year, according to data released by Polaris.

The National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888) announced that it has expanded the modes of communication survivors can use to reach out and get connected to help to include 24/7 SMS texting and online chat services in both English and Spanish. 

Delta Air Lines announced that it’s partnering with Polaris through a sponsorship that will support the organization’s activities, including operation of the National Human Trafficking Hotline. 

Polaris recently began a collaboration with the Mexican consular network to exchange information and knowledge that will strengthen our respective efforts to support survivors.
